This is a builder's role, not a maintainer's. Two markets, two 3PLs, two demand curves, and an ops function that's about to get built properly for the first time.
You'll own the answer to three questions that matter more than anything else here: is the stock in the right place, do the systems actually talk to each other, and does the business run smoothly day to day. Nail those and you're the reason this brand scales without the wheels coming off.
WHO THEY ARE
A fast-growing wellness brand that built a product women over 40 actually stick with, in a category full of expensive subscriptions people quietly cancel after month two. Tens of thousands of subscribers in the UK alone, and the US launch is already live. Founder-led, no bureaucracy, no committee deciding things that one good operator could just fix.
- One of the fastest-growing brands in its category in the UK
- Just launched in the US, doubling the operational complexity overnight
- Founder-led: you'll work directly with the person making the calls, not three layers removed from them
- A product people actually reorder, not a one-and-done impulse buy
- Small team that moves fast and expects you to keep up, not slow down
This is a fully remote, full-time contractor role.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
-
You'll build the function, not maintain someone else's. Inventory, systems and reporting all need rebuilding from scratch.
-
Direct line to the founder. No middle management, no waiting on approvals that don't need three people to sign off.
-
Performance bonus and equity. Upside tied to the growth you're directly responsible for protecting.
-
Genuine autonomy. This is a broad remit in a business that changes quickly, and the scope is yours to define as you go.
-
Room to grow with the company. By month 12, you're not just running ops, you're building and leading a small team under you.
WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO
- Own the demand forecast across UK and US, built from media spend, sell-through, subscriptions and seasonality
- Turn that forecast into a purchase order schedule with the co-manufacturer, factoring lead times, MOQs and safety stock
- Track inventory across fulfilment centres and flag reallocation before one location runs short
- Model the cash tied up in stock and know when to hold cover versus free up spend for media
- Own Shopify at an advanced level, including its integrations with fulfilment, subscriptions, CS and email
- Diagnose and fix integration failures yourself, whether it's a routing issue or a desync
- Build automations that remove manual work for good, using Zapier, Make, Shopify Flow or light scripting
- Coordinate closely with suppliers and the incoming logistics hire so inventory data lines up across both sides
- Sit above CS as the strategic layer: own tickets-per-order, refund rate and root-cause reduction
- Own onboarding, offboarding and the day-to-day people questions in a fast-moving team
WHO YOU ARE
- You have 3+ years in operations for a fast-growing D2C or ecommerce business, ideally physical product with a subscription component
- You've built a real inventory forecasting model, placed the POs yourself, and lived with what happens when the forecast is wrong
- You're advanced in Shopify and Google Sheets, not just "comfortable navigating" either one
- You've built working automations yourself with Zapier, Make or Shopify Flow, and you're comfortable with webhooks and APIs
- You understand supply chain fundamentals well enough to coordinate closely with suppliers and a dedicated logistics hire
- You spot problems before they surface rather than reacting once they land
Bonus if you've:
- Worked hands-on with ShipBob or a similar US fulfilment setup
- Operated across UK and US, including customs, duties and landed cost
- Used subscription platforms (Loop or similar), CS platforms (Gorgias, Richpanel or similar) or Klaviyo
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
-
First 30 days: You know the stock position, lead times and constraints cold, and you've mapped the full systems stack and identified where it's breaking.
-
By 60 days: You've rebuilt or replaced the forecasting model, and you're fully looped in with suppliers and the logistics hire on inventory across both markets.
-
By 90 days: Forecast accuracy is measurable and improving, with no avoidable stockouts. Meaningful manual work has been automated away, and tickets per thousand orders are trending down.
